Wunelli

Wunelli was created in September 2007 to develop a vehicle telematics solution that would be financially viable and desirable to both insurers and customers. Since the formation of the company, Wunelli has invested significant time and resources into telematics research and development including:

Market and product research and development:

• Patent applications
• Technical specifications and prototype devices
• A real world proof of concept pilot study
• A value chain and financial proposition
• A customer portal and SEO [Search Engine Optimisation] of the website

The Coverbox Panel launched in January 2009 and has been extremely successful in proving the concept to insurers. The product and service are marketed under the brand called "Coverbox" and a trip database was developed by CDL which allows easy monthly billing process to the customer of journey data.

In addition, there has already been interest from other European countries in a Usual Based Insurance offering. The Coverbox aim was to become 'The leading usage based insurance provider in the UK within a year of the launch date, and this has been achieved.

Wunelli Directors are from an insurance company, broker, data and telematics backgrounds.

Sandy Dunn - Chairman

Sandy Dunn has over 35 years' experience in the insurance sector in Europe. He is the non-executive Chairman of both Wunelli Limited and BDML Connect Limited.

Prior to establishing BDML, Sandy Dunn accumulated a vast experience in the insurance industry having established Eagle Star's direct operation in 1988/89 and then launching the Touchline direct insurance business in 1993. He was also director of the GAN Group from 1992 to 1998 and established Rossborough Insurance Services Limited (now BDML) from 1993 to 1998.

Sandy has held a number of senior positions on industry bodies such as the CII and ABI, and is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurance Broker.

Paul Stacy - IT and Innovations Director

Paul founded Wunelli in 2008 with the aim of making telematics insurance work for both individuals and insurance companies. His aim was to:

"Reward safe responsible drivers with competitive premiums and deliver attractive loss ratios to Insurers in high risk segments of the private motor market".

Paul is currently the IT and Innovations Director of Wunelli. Prior to Wunelli, Paul studied Engineering and then completed his Masters of Mathematics in Queuing Theory and Statistics. After finishing his studies Paul started working in Insurance for Accenture and AXA Asia Pacific based in Melbourne Australia.

In 2004 Paul immigrated to England and joined BDML Connect as Operations Director. For the next 5-years Paul was responsible for all staff and activities in BDML's Operational and Systems Departments.

Paul lives with his wife and little sons in Hampshire.

Penny Searles - Managing Director

Penny Searles has over 15 years experience in Financial Services and has worked in the Mortgage and Insurance Industry in both the UK and Europe. Penny has worked with both UK banks and building societies, in operational and sales roles. Penny joined the board of TML, part of the Kensington Group in 2003 as Chief Operating Officer and has a wealth of knowledge in direct to consumer sales and marketing, in addition to having a strong operational background.

In 2006 Penny left Kensington to join the board of a Spanish Mortgage & Insurance Operation and was responsible for launching a cross border, multi lingual broker.

Penny returned to the UK to join Wunelli Ltd to assist in both the launch of the Coverbox insurance policy and in forming the data strategy for the company.

Manny Perez – Information Systems Manager

Manny joined Wunelli as a consultant in early 2010 but now heads Wunelli IT as the Information Systems Manager. The Chilean born Australian has had a varied background in Engineering, Science and GIS. He has worked in local government and also as an Exercise Physiologist in Australia prior to moving to the UK in 2001.

On arrival in the UK, Manny started out working for the BBC in London and then for an extended period with a service management company as the Operations and Infrastructure Manager. With 7 years IT industry experience under his belt, he then made a successful progression to consulting as a SQL Server Database Specialist. He operated as a consultant for 3 years prior to joining Wunelli.
